"This car is the dream of a Finnish car enthusiast with talented coachbuilding skills - and now I not only get to tell the story of the car, but also offer it on his behalf. The owner and builder works full-time as a coachbuilder at the local Volvo dealer. Parking bumps and accidents are his speciality. It's hard to believe when you see the results of his hobby. One day he wondered what a coupé version of the Volvo 164 - one of his favourite models - would have looked like. You know, the 262 and the 780, so he sat down and started looking for a suitable base vehicle that would meet his expectations in terms of proportions, roofline and wheelbase. The choice fell on a '93 BMW M3 from the E36 series.
The conversion The owner first removed all the body parts and then began to merge parts from a 164 Volvo with the BMW parts. The quality of the work is stunning and it's safe to say that he doesn't use his talent for accident repairs. You can tell that this is his private passion. It's actually impossible to say where the BMW part ends and the Volvo part begins. The important thing is that the conversion is purely visual. The passenger compartment and the floor assembly remain untouched. The roofline and glazing are still original BMW. And the detail work is no less impressive. For example, the surrounds of the radiator grille and emblem, the door handles and the indicator frames are all handmade. Also worth mentioning are the "imitation air filter housings" in the engine compartment, which are also handmade and conceal the oil filter on one side and the windscreen washer fluid reservoir on the other. Everything about this car is well thought out. Inside, the interior is largely identical to that of the M3. Only the steering wheel was given a matching Volvo 162 emblem and the seats were taken from the M3 E92.
The drivetrain and the details Technically, nothing was left to chance and many parts were overhauled or replaced. Although the conversion would have been complex and extravagant enough, the builder chose a 4. 9-litre V8 from a BMW M5 E39 from 2000 as a more suitable engine and also adopted the six-speed gearbox from the M5. According to the company, the engine was built on a new block and received new bearings, piston rings, timing chains and guides as well as a freely programmable engine management system, which made it possible to dispense with air flow sensors. The VANOS system was also revised. Naturally, the flywheel and clutch were also renewed. The engine exhales through a stainless steel exhaust system with a subtle sound - naturally with catalytic converters. The result The result is an absolutely unique piece for people with a penchant for something special and understatement. It's hard to imagine what such a conversion would have cost if a specialised company had built it to order. For the client, the journey was the destination - he hardly ever drove the car, because the next project followed immediately. And with space running out, the Volvo-BMW can now go.
The price The price would include transport from Finland to Germany and German MOT approval (and any conversions). If you would like to take it over with Finnish registration and have it shipped to another location, we can certainly calculate that.
