Rover P6 3500 – Automatic/ Factory PAS/ Stunning
The 3500 was introduced in April 1968 and continued to be offered until 1977. The V8 engine weighed the same as the four-cylinder unit of the Rover 2000 giving the more powerful cars a maximum speed of 114 mph with a 0-60 time of 10. 5-seconds.
At Milestones we are always on the lookout for good P6’s and the V8 3500 automatic is, in our opinion, the ultimate classic motorway cruiser. We have sold this lovely example on two previous occasions and each time it has come back in part-exchange for another Milestones car.
The Rover first appeared on our radar in 2017 when offered to us by a retired engineer who had owned her for nearly 20 years. Bob had maintained the car to a high standard himself and added some personal touches including a continental spare-wheel conversion (with the car but not fitted), sports steering wheel (original wheel is with the car) and Nada bonnet scoop.
Today the Rover still presents well – the Almond paint, Huntsman Brown vinyl roof and chrome bumpers/ hub caps is a stunning combination. The structure of the P6 is excellent with no corrosion under the rear seats/ inner rear door shuts - a notorious weak spot on this model - and panel fit is excellent. The interior is equally as impressive with box-pleat leather seats, dash, roof lining & carpets all in good condition.
There is a nice history file with the car including MOT’s & lots of invoices back to 1999, driver’s handbook and contemporary literature including factory sales brochures, manuals etc.
On the road the car does not disappoint. The gearbox is super smooth, the V8 exhaust note addictive and the factory option power steering (that added £110. 25 to the cost of the car when new) making for a very civilised driving experience in extremely comfortable surroundings.
In summary, the P6 3500 is a lovely car that drives as good as it looks. Undervalued for many years we recommend an early test drive.
