Description
What a delightful restored Gordon England,
First registered on 21st March 1928, a buff logbook dated 1933 records the owner as Harrison Townsend, believed to have been the car’s first custodian. Townsend worked as a designer for Hartland Wolf at the Albert Docks. During the war he was badly injured by flying glass from a V2 rocket, spending two and a half years recovering before returning home to North Yorkshire, where the Gordon England remained. He ran the car until it eventually wore out, bought another Austin 7, and used the Gordon England for spares.
On the eve of her 70th birthday in 1998, the car was purchased by Charles Knill-Jones, then working for Nick Mason’s Ten Tenths collection. A short time later selling it to the third owner, Graham Little, to join his Bugatti Type 35B. Graham entrusted Mark Hofton to construct a new Gordon England body. From photographs taken at that time it is clear that a full mechanical rebuild was also carried out.
I’m offering KD906 on behalf of her fourth owner, who acquired the car in 2017 and has kept a meticulous service history. In May 2018, the rear axle was rebuilt with a new CWP 4. 9, and since then only routine servicing has been required. The most recent service was completed in May 2025, at 4, 104 miles since restoration.
This exceptionally well-presented example is fitted with full wet weather gear, a new body, fresh leather trim, and retains its original mechanicals (with the ignition thoughtfully converted from magneto to coil).
A worthy addition to any established collection, or an ideal introduction to vintage motoring with the ability to take part in events anywhere in the world.
