The ‘Berlinetta Boxer’ debuted at the 1971 Turin Motor Show and charted a new course for Ferrari styling that influences the company’s products to this day. In stark contrast to the curvaceous front-engine designs that had been Ferrari’s signature for decades, the ‘Berlinetta Boxer’ introduced radically different proportions with its mid-engine chassis wrapped in angular styling by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti.

The car’s new semi-monocoque, steel-tube structure drew heavily from the highly successful 250 LM race car and the Dino 206/ 246 introduced a decade prior. The 4. 4-litre flat-12, mounted longitudinally ahead of the rear axle, was an evolution of the type 001 3. 0-litre engine used in the 312B Formula 1 car and the roadgoing 365 GTB/ 4 Daytona, which the ‘Berlinetta Boxer’ would replace for the 1973 model year. Officially designated the 365 GT4 BB, it was Ferrari’s first-ever mid-engine 12-cylinder road car. Ferrari would later evolve the platform to make way for the 512 BB, then the Testarossa. Only 387 were produced from 1973 to 1976, making the 365 GT4 BB especially coveted by Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts.

The example offered here was finished by the factory in the rare colour of Bianco Polo, complemented by a Nero leather interior. It completed production on 20 March 1974 and was delivered new via Milan’s official Ferrari dealer, M Gastone Crepaldi Automobili. It was registered for the road in Italy wearing the targa VA 423947, which the Ferrari has retained throughout its remarkable single ownership in its home country. Its long-term custodian, based in the Varese region, retained the Ferrari until January 2026. Comments on file from the official Ferrari workshop, Autofficina Bonini Carlo, recall a restoration of the car in the early to mid-2000s, with Bacchelli & Villa overseeing the bodywork repairs. The engine was not rebuilt because it was in good condition. In 2020, the 365 GT4 BB was returned to Autofficina Bonini Carlo for a timing belt replacement with other servicing (invoice available to view on file). In April 2026, Ferrari Classiche certified this 365 GT4 BB, with the coveted "Red Book" to follow after the sale.

The single-owner 365 GT4 BB is offered with its Ferrari leather folio containing books and manuals, a tool kit, and leather tool bag with jack.
