Description
This is a very special Triumph TR7, certainly one of the earliest known examples to exist and a car with true unrepeatable provenance. Still in its factory colours of Mimosa Yellow with Black cord trim, this car was dispatched to the Experimental fleet, Engineering Fleet at Triumph in Coventry. Manufacturing on the TR7 began in September 1974 and our car was bult on the 19th September 1974 and whilst it didn’t leave the UK, it was built to a LHD North American spec with four speed gearbox, air-conditioning , laminated windscreen and US spec equipment to include bumpers, steering wheel and marker lights that are still present today. Delivered new to Triumph in Coventry, it wasn’t until the 17th March 1976 when the car was first actually registered in the UK.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirms this early TR7 left the factory in LHD, and has clearly at some point, quite possibly very early on was converted back to RHD. The TR comes with a fairly comprehensive history file with MOT's dating back to 1991 when the mileage was 57627. NDU 576P now records 85000 miles which is likely to be correct. Prior to 2024 the TR7 was in a private collection and in 2020 was recommissioned by renowned Triumph engineer Dennis Vessey. Work included a rolling road set up, carburettor overhaul, new engine and gearbox mountings and a new clutch assembly.
NDU 576P retains a nicely presented paint finish, a good quality, straight bodyshell and nicely aged upholstery. It is not a ‘concours' car, but nonetheless a lovely, very genuine example that can be driven, enjoyed and taken to shows and events. Not only a good looking, impressive driving example, the car has huge appeal with its impressive early provenance, original correct colour combination and very unique specification. The TR7 will be freshly serviced for its next owner, and we are also happy to supply the car with a full 12 month MOT although exempt and registered as a historic vehicle. This is a one off, it is likely to be the earliest, or certainly one of the earliest surviving examples known to exist.
