Description
Austin 10 1947 GS1 (Crocodile bonnet style) for spares. Original log book (VE60) and V5 are present. Many parts are similar to the pre-war 1939/ 40 model. This rare post war vehicle is mainly complete, but chassis and shell are structurally in disrepair. Vehicle is movable as it steers and moves forwards and backwards on the crank handle. I would prefer to sell it as a whole. Most components are present including Engine (turns on crank handle), Gearbox, Rear axle, Steering box, Radiator, Dashboard/ instruments, 5 wheels, 4 Hub caps, All Doors Bonnet and Boot with Handles, Interior Chrome handles, Window winders, Front Windscreen, All Window glass, Headlights, Lamps, Lights, Front grille, etc. Brown leather seats are good (except small area on rear) as they were stored indoors.
As interest has already come from quite some distances, I think it would be helpful to give as much detail here as possible. However, giving an honest and accurate account of a 64 year old car that has been sitting is very difficult. Here are a few things to bear in mind: Interior door panels are damaged or missing, as is the interior trim. Dashboard surface is rusty but complete (with time clock removed/ dismantled). Window rubbers are perished, Austin bonnet badge broken, and bumpers scaly (rear has twisted because of the collapse of chassis). The sunroof mechanism has seriously gone (actual sunroof skin repairable I would think). All other doors are good for age, but door posts have had it. Side runners are missing and rear wings have corroded off. As the car is fragile, it would have to be properly strapped and tied down for transporting it on a flatbed trailer.
The engine had been rebuilt soon after I purchased it a long time ago now. It only did 2, 000 miles max since (engine oil is still clean). Cylinder compression is low/ non existent as would be expected for an engine that hasn't been used for ages.
