Ordered for the North America market this MGA 1500 was built on 27th February 1957 with the then optional extras of Heater, Adjustable Steering Wheel and Whitewall Tyres! It appears to have been re-imported in the early 90s, restored and converted to right hand drive with a colour change from Orient to Signal red. The car comes with a Heritage Certificate and a history file since its return to the UK.
I have owned and cherished the car since 2009 during which time I have aimed to make it a more drivable car, to this end the original 1500 engine has been rebuilt by an MG specialist, the Head converted for lead-free fuel and “Econotuned” by Peter Burgess. In addition to this the car comes with a Hi-Gear Engineering T9 5 speed conversion along with lighter MGB clutch and flywheel to improve performance. For improved braking the front drum brakes were converted to discs utilising MGB callipers and pads. Both the original gearbox and drum brakes were retained should any future owner wish to revert back to the original configuration. The fuel pump has been upgraded to an electronic version and the carburettors refurbished by MGA specialist Bob West. The car is fitted with Lumination Electronic Ignition and has previously been tuned by Aldon Automotive organised through the MGA register. During my ownership the suspension has been totally rebuilt using Polyurethane bushing where appropriate and the rear springs re-set to original specification. The interior, black with red piping trim was already in excellent condition, however, the padding was replaced along with new seat bases. The exhaust system is Stainless Steel and in excellent condition. More recently, the wiring harness has been totally replaced with a Moss Cloth covered loom with the Headlights fed through fused relays. The car is fitted with an Alternator and has therefore been converted to negative earth running from a single 12 volt battery. The rear taillights have at some point, been changed to the 1600 style with individual brake/ indicator bulbs; this was a modification popular in the states for improved road safety. Although an older restoration this car still attracts attention and drives extremely well in modern traffic. The car comes with a sound cloth hood, side screens, wind wings, and extra long tonneau cover. Although none original the boot is carpeted in black.
While this is a very presentable car, at this competitive price, it is not to concourse show standard due to minor blemishes and the front valance would benefit from attention so prospective buyers should be aware of this. Viewing and test drive is advised, an on-line version of the history file covering my period of ownership can be made available at viewing. Retirement and competing interests have meant the car has had little use over recent years hence this reluctant sale.
