Almost 60 years since the MGB was launched on to the British market, this handsome, classless, fun car still defines the British Sports car, as mistakably of these shores as the black cab, warm beer and summer rain.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage certificate, accompanying this particular MGB Roadster, the car was built at the Abingdon Plant on the 12th of October 1966 and dispatched to Appleyards of Bradford on the 14th of October the same year. The Heritage certificate also states that the car was painted in Tartan red, the colour that the car still retains today. The car was treated to a a 4 year restoration in the early 90s using a Heritage bodyshell. During the rebuild the engine was stripped and rebuilt using a Piper Magnum fast road cam and Aldon eletronic distributor. At the time of the engine rebuild new oil and water pumps were fitted together with a new timing chain and tensioner, new rockers and rocker shaft. Bores were honed, block refaced, new big end and camshaft bearings fitted along with new piston rings. The 4 speed all syncro gearbox has been rebuilt in the last 7 months. The car runs with the usual overdrive on 3rd and top gears.
At the time of the restoration the suspension was rebuilt utilising a Ron Hopkinson handling kit consisting of new front anti roll bar with upgraded bushes and fitment of a new rear anti roll bar. New springs and reconditioned exchange lever arm shock absorbers. Stainless steel exhaust system. New black leather interior with matching carpets. Single 12 volt battery conversion.
We sold this car to a long standing customer last year. During his custody he treated the car to a new mohair hood and full tonneau cover by Don Trimming of Birmingham, new clutch, Revotec electric fan with thermostat and interior switch, new battery, powder coated wire wheels fitted with new Uniroyal Rallye 30 165 R 14 tyres. and period radio with ipod connection and door mounted speakers.
The car comes with a comprehensive history file with previous MOTs, photographic record of rebuild and a wad of invoices going back to the 90s.
