Description

Ford introduced Mk II versions of its Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac cars in 1956, once again a convertible version was also available.

The Mk II Zephyr used a new 2553cc six cylinder engine which came with a three speed gearbox, automatic transmission was available as an option.

The Convertible Zephyr came with a power or a manually operated top. As before the top could be lowered in two stages, the first provided a "de-ville" position which looked very glamorous. As before with the Mk I cars, the convertible bodies were built for Ford by Coventry based Carbodies. Production ended with the rest of the range in 1962, sadly this would be the last of the "Big Ford" convertibles.

Believe it or believe not the writer has known this car from new, having worked in the same road where this car lived in the late 1950s. The Zephyr was supplied new by Rugby Autocar Ltd Ford dealers for Coventry and Warwickshire at the time. The car was first registered in August 1958. Since when the car has had just 3 owners and has covered only 75, 000 miles. The car has not been restored and although it has some cosmetic paintwork rectification over the years the remains in almost its original state.
The Zephyr has the added benefit of Overdrive, a full tonneau cover, a half tonneau, polished aluminium wheel covers, a period radio and badge bar with many period badges. When the car was supplied new it was fitted with an Aquaplane triple carburettor conversion and 6 branch exhaust manifold, all of which remain on the car to this day.
The history file contains most of its older MOT certificate dating back to 1980, V5, Ford owners club material which suggest the car is known in the club, original owners handbook, original Ford warranty card and certain amount of hand written details of the car from previous owners.
All in all a super example of a 50s Ford icon which are very hard to find today.

Part exchange welcome new or old funds either way.
