Beschreibung
The MGA Twin Cam was announced in 1957 and was the result of a lengthy develpment but disappointingly it returned one of the shortest production runs the the MG factory had ever seen. This certainly makes the car somewhat of a rarity with only 2111 cars produced between 1958 and early 1960. The twin cam was to utilise an engine that was never fitted to any other car and was developed from the B series engine. For ease of productio, economy and reliability the standard pushrod type of engines were used by MG from then on, bot it was evident that performance sufferedasa result and the engineers became frustrated at trying to extract more than 60 bhp from the B engine. It was then that their attentions were turned to the production of an overhead cam unit.
According to the Heritage certificate in the car's history file the car was built in March 1959 and supplied to an American serviceman in Germany. On his return to California he took the Twin Cam with him. Later in the car's life the car was handled by a Jim Alcorn of La Jolla California, a very well known gentleman in Twin Cam circles around the world. The car then found it's way to Australia and was subject to a full chassis up restoration by 'MGA Specialist Services' of Hastings near Melbourne. The history file contains a full photographic record and log of the rebuild including conversion to right hand drive. The car then found its way back to the shores of it's birth in 2002.
One of just 323 MGA Twin Cam coupes built by the factory.
The car has won a number of awards in this country in different concourse competitions and MG meetings. An exquite looking car finished in bright red with tan interior. The Mg is a superb driver enhanced by the fitting of a 5 speed gearbox.
