1988 Ducati F1750 Tricolore
Owing to the popularity of Ducati in Australia, the F1 750 Tricolore made its global debut at the 1985 Sydney Motorcycle Exhibition. The F1 was a road going derivative of Ducati hugely successful 750 TT1 racer, which replaced the 600 TT2 from ’81. With the momentum and attention the Italian manufacturer garnered with the success of Mike Hailwood, the F1 was an immensely popular model world-wide, so much so that the factory produced the smaller F3 350 and 400 models exclusively for the Japan market.
The F1 featured a constant-mesh five-speed gearbox and its 748. 1cc engine made 94hp at 10, 000RPM. It also featured a mono-shock rear suspension, something quite avant guard for the era, and combined with the tubular trestle frame were a recipe for success that would be utilized for many years following the F1.
Only 2, 501 units of the F1 were ever produced from 1985 to 1988; this figure includes the three special race versions i. e., Laguna Seca, Montjuich and Santa Monica. This example is one of the last produced; 1987 build with 2/ 88 Australian compliance plate & production number 1, 572 of 2, 501. This bike is un-restored, patina correct for its 36, 000k use, and the engine starts and runs beautifully. In preparation for selling the bike has been fully serviced, valve shims, cam belts, fuel & oil filters etc. This bike is ready to ride away.
