1961 Ford Thunderbird
As even a passing glance at any of the photographs of this 1961 Ford Thunderbird will suggest, this is a very special car.
Imported by the current owner in 2014, the car was built in the style of custom car royalty, the late Larry Watson. Though the car was completely gone through mechanically and electronically at this point, including the dialling in of the perfect static stance, the main talking point of the car is the bodywork.
Starting from bare metal, 42 coats of paint and lacquer were applied to create the incredible finish. Using House of Kolor paint, the industry standard, Abelone White Flake was paired with Teal Candy lacework to achieve a stunning and period style finish. Pinstriping was carried out by expert Neil Melliard, with the smoothing of the aerial and door handles professionally done by Adam Blackbourne. Great detail was gone to make this an authentic lowrider, even down to leaving the original paint in the engine bay and inner boot as this was how Larry used to do it back in the day.
The stock interior was left well alone, as something so gorgeous should be, and pairs perfectly with the exterior. The car appeared in Custom Car magazine shortly after completion, and has since been invited to several shows and taken several trophies home.
It’s the classic car dealer cliché that something ‘must be seen to be appreciated’, but in the case of this Thunderbird it is undeniably true. Available for viewing at our West London showroom, this is a rare chance to pick up a proper lowrider at a fraction of the build cost.
