I bought the car in September 1992 chassis no. 6027016 engine no. 37-5353 from a Riley enthusiast who had refurbished the chassis and fitted the 12/ 4 engine. Over the next 30 years the car was my regular transport and only off the road when major improvements were made. I zeroed the odometer on purchase and it was later recalibrated when the axle ratio was changed. At 3850 miles the a new third type automatic clutch was fitted, together with a straight through exhaust manifold . At 7361 miles a new crow wheel and pinion was fitted ratio 4. 77 including new bearings.
At 12927 mls. A complete engine rebuild with new white metal bearings, pistons, and hardened valve seats. Carburettor now 1. 5 inch s. u.
At 29000 the preselected gearbox was rebuilt and the universal joint replaced.
At 28882 mls. The head gasket was replaced with the new Riley register pattern. April 2022 and 4 new Blockley tyres and tubes fitted. The car was then mounted on 4 axle stands so it could be fired up at regular intervals.
Other details, walnut veneered dash, electric water pump, electric fan, sidelights led with built in orange flashers and full hazard warning . Stone guards to radiator and headlamps. Cotton duck tonneau and older rexine type hood and sidescreens . The chrome work has a patina of age having no restoration, ash framing sound, boot lid was rebuild. The front seats have been recovered in leather, the rear is original and show some damageFuture work needed . The brakes have modern bonded linings which have been treated for squealing, they might need adjustment, and I did consider fitting aluminium drums. Interior Trim is not original and could be replaced with leather. The hood ( which I only used once in 31 years ) could be replaced.
