Description
For sale, a 1986 Citroen CX 25 GTi Turbo series 2.
I bought this car 6 years ago when I was the columnist for the Citroenian; the Citroen UK Owners' Club monthly magazine. The car was bought by the previous owner in November 1989 and was used has his main car until 1993 when it had a hydraulic leak. The car was parked in his garage and he bought another car as he intended to fix the hydraulic lines himself. Time passed and the car sat, unused, in a dry garage in Essex for 24 years until his passing. I was offered the car, and bought it, to harvest the parts for my silver CX Turbo. I transported it back to South Wales, cleaned it, and realised it was too good to break for parts. It has sat in my garage with a cover on since. I would like to sell it now as my silver CX has been parked outside over winter for 6 years and it's taking its toll!
This particular CX is a late 1985 built car. The ORGA number is 3308 confirming a build date of 29th November 1985. It wears a 1986 C plate, registered at West Heath Garage in Farnborough. It still has its original dealer plates.
This CX is unusual because it has not spent years sitting in a field or outside as many other project CXs have. Underneath it is solid. The door bottoms are rust free and the boot floor in intact. It does have a sunroof which has bubbles around the edge but it has not rusted the floor out. The trailing edge of the bonnet is rusty as the pictures demonstrate. The paint it patchy as you'd expect and has various marks, dents and scratches from being in a garage with items stored on it. It will need a respray to bring it back to its full glory but its a solid starting point. The headlights are good and the glass is complete and intact. All rubber mouldings, except the two on the rear corners, are complete. The car has a towbar and was used to tow a trailer in the late 80s - it's also helpful for pulling it out of my garage!
Mechanically, I haven't done much with the car. It rolls freely and the tyres hold air but they've been on the car since the 90s. I've put blocks in the suspension bump stops so the car sits higher so it can be loaded/ unloaded without fuss. I've put a battery on the car, sprayed oil down the spark plug holes and it turns over so the engine isn't stuck. I haven't poked about more than this though. The car won't go into a gear because the gearbox linkage is seized but I haven't been under it to soak it in oil. Again, it's a solid starting point.
Finally, the interior. Its salvation is that its been parked inside so it's not been blemished by the sun or soaked by rainwater. The chevronic interior is clean and rip free. The carpets are good and the plastic mouldings are complete. The original radio/ tape player is present but it appears the digital display is missing from the car. These are known for failing so I would imagine it's been removed at some point to be fixed and not put back in the car.
I have some paperwork for the car - service history up to 52, 000 in 1987. The previous owner then serviced the CX himself and was actively involved in the Owners' club.
Citroen CXs are increasingly rare cars, especially the petrol turbo.
I am not looking for a huge amount of money for the car and would like to think somebody will buy it with the intention of restoring it. The car does not run or drive and will need to be trailered away from Cardiff, South Wales. I can help load the car.
