1965 FORD THAMES 400E 15CWT. MARTIN WALTER DORMOBILE CAMPERVAN.
This fantastic vintage campervan was first registered 8th March 1965. It
is now 58 years old and is both MOT and road tax exempt. It was
purchased via auction in 2019 by a Mr. Bridger (not the one in the
Italian job) who then proceeded to do a thorough restoration in just six
months. Any imperfections in the bodywork was addressed before painting.
The underside of the van is in fantastic condition and solid as a rock.
When purchased it was red with a cream flash but he decided to reverse
the colours to Cream with a red flash. The red/ white elevating roof
works well and is in OK condition. All the interior was re-trimmed in
red with white piping on the seats and new cupboards where fitted at the
rear. There is a double gas cooker and sink fitted with the water and
gas supplies hidden under a floor hatch. The seats convert easily in to
2 beds and a further 2 hammocks can be found in the elevating roof when
raised. The engine and gearbox were in fine fettle and just needed a
good service with new plugs, ignition timing sorted and a good tune up,
filters and a rebuilt carburettor. New bushes in the gear linkeage and
re-cored radiator completed the mechanical works and the van now drives
really well with a surprising amount of power from the 1703cc straight 4
engine and 4 speed gearbox. The mileage is showing only 84, 000 and
whilst it can't be guaranteed it looks to be correct. It is the Delux
model so comes with chrome bumpers and a roof rack above the cab. There
is a good history file and an original brochure. Just after the van was
completed it featured in a 8 page magazine article (copy comes with the
van).
