1962 Triumph TR3B LHD USA Barn Find
The TR3B was a North American only update of the successful TR3A. The TR3B was never sold in the UK. The TR3B was produced from March 1962 until October 1962, that was six months after the last TR3A had been manufactured in October 1961. Triumph didn’t want to produce another car with side screens after the TR3A but initially the North American dealers displayed doubt with the TR4 with its wind-up windows and full width bodywork. The TCF TR3B’s are often said to be the best of the side screen cars. Fitted with the 2138cc TR4 power plant and 4 speed synchromesh gearbox, it had the best combination of drive-train
This Triumph TR3B was built in May 1962 at Triumph’s Canley factory before being shipped to the USA. It was delivered to a dealership in the state of Michigan where it spent all of its life until it was purchased by myself and shipped to the UK in 2022. It was believed the car was taken off the road, by its last owner in around 1982 and has been in a dry Michigan barn ever since. It’s not clear how many owners this car has had but I believe I could be the 3rd or 4th. This TR3B is the 21st TCF off the line, so a very early and rare car.
I believe the car was originally white which can be seen under some trim parts and the dashboard. At somepoint in the cars life it’s been repainted red. The car is fairly complete but missing a few items like rear bumper, badges, some small trim items and a couple of engine bay items. The body work of the car is in fair condition with a lot of dents and scratches. Most of the panels are very solid and believed to be original. I can see no signed of previous welding work. The bottom of the sills, doors and wings are rusty with some large holes and would require restoration. The chassis has a lot of surface rust but no rust holes as far as I can see. The interior is in a fairly original condition but is in poor condition with damage to the trim, seats and carpets.
The car has covered 60189 miles which is shown on the gauge. It’s not known if this is genuine or not. The car comes with lots of invoices in the USA and some spare/ unfitted parts. The car does not run or drive and all 4 tyres are flat. This is a restoration project and car will need to be collected with a trailer and a winch.
The car is not UK registered, it comes with a USA Title and Nova. I have all the import paperwork for the vehicle.
