Description
This genuine, (matching numbers), Mk2 Mini Cooper S was totally stripped to bare metal, and then rebuilt over a two/ three year period as a replica works rally car in 2018 - 2021. Although the car looks like a period rally machine, it has never partaken in any motor sport event.
The bodyshell was stripped to bare metal and then any panels were replaced that were required. The bodyshell was then repainted inside and out.
The engine is a fast road engine built by race car engine builder Oliver Jeynes (approx 90bhp on Airey Tuning dyno) and the gearbox is fitted with straight cut gears and drop gear. The car has an electric radiator fan in addition to the standard item.
Inside, a full works dash is fitted which includes correct switches, Halda Twinmaster and two Heuer stop watches. Correct washer bottle and map light on passenger side. Correct heated front windscreen with correct TOK switch.
A correct period John Alley rollover bar is fitted together with correct period Microcell recliner front seats.
At the front of the car, there is a correct 'quick release' bonnet, four driving lamps on correct removable lamp bar with correct electrical plug into front wing.
The level of detail is amazing and needs to really be examined to be appreciated. Needless to say, this car would cost a huge amount more to build than my asking price - and remember, this is a GENUINE COOPER S with a HERITAGE CERTIFICATE.
This fantastic car has only had five previous owners and the previous owner had the car for 24 years! A previous owner of this car was renowned Mini racer 'Stormin' Norman Grimshaw who owned it as his road car.
The car is based near Dorking, Surrey and viewing is welcome for serious purchasers.
The Cooper S is MOT tested (although this is not required). The mileage is not an indication of condition as the entire car has been rebuilt with rebuilt or new components and has since covered just a few miles. The car is terrific fun to drive giving a very similar experience to a fast Kart - amazing handling yet very fast.
Although fast, it is very well mannered on the road, and is always welcomed at car shows and events. The white squares on the doors are magnetic and can be easily removed when wishing to drive incognito!
