This is probably one of the best Elan Sprint FHC's for sale. The rarity of this car cannot be underestimated. There are currently only a handful of Sprint coupes for sale.
I have not seen a Colorado Orange FHC for years, there are reputed to be less than 15 with the 5 speed gear box.
The car has been garaged all it's life, and was regularly wax oiled underneath to preserve the chassis. Between 2019-2020, the car went through an extensive restoration process, with a view to keeping things as original as possible, whilst upgrading some known week areas. Over £13, 000 was spent in parts alone. The entire body was taken back to bare fibreglass, any imperfections were taken out, and then it was repainted in the correct "Colorado Orange" by a very experienced fibreglass specialist.
The car wears its original 1972 number plates - a nod back to its roots.
The engine was sent to classic Lotus Specialist "Spyder Cars" who all but rebuilt the engine, this alone cost £3500 and including a strip down, replacement of water pump, new gaskets, plugs, rubbers, seals, new fuel pump, new engine and carb mounts, new upper diff mounts, rectifying radiator and ignition coil wiring, a new aluminium fuel tank and sender, complete new clutch kit and bearing. The Weber carburettors were rebuilt, there are new fuel lines.
The entire suspension and brakes were rebuilt to as new condition, including new shocks, springs, seats, bushes, calipers, discs, pads, bearings and all associated parts.
All 5 wheels stripped and powder coated in satin black, the retain the original Lotus (made in the UK) 3 eared spinners - which are unobtainable now. The reproduction ones are of much lower quality. It does have its original beauty rings too, but I prefer the look without. The tyres are brand new (just fitted) Toyos.
The gearbox was rebuilt previously. There is a new brake servo and clutch master cylinder. The driveshaft doughnuts have been replaced, the exhaust system is new, All the electrics work, including the heating and the infamous pop up lights.
The interior is in excellent condition, the carpets are new, as are various electrics. A genuine Elan "Colin Chapman" Steering wheel was sourced (at great expense)
A huge history file accompanies the car, with all the receipts for the restoration including photos, as well as historic history including letters going back to the 70s, old V5s, old MOTs, insurance and valuation letters, the original dealer network book from new, original letters from the supplying dealer, it also has the original Lotus Elan Workshop manual, Original lotus prints from the 60s.
HPI Clear in all categories, it has had this number plate from new.
Overall, a stunning car in one of the most sought after colours. It drives wonderfully.
Any inspection welcome, I may consider a PX with something interesting.
