This Ducati 749R was sold direct from Ducati Motor Holding SpA to the 1. Owner, Mr. Massimo Maccaferri.
Mr. Massimo Maccaferri is a collector of mainly italian sports car and bikes. The reason why mr. Massimo Maccaferri was able to purchase the bike direct from Ducati Motor Holding SpA, is unknown to me, but he must have pretty good personal/ business connection to top management / board directors.
When I bought the bike in 2017, the history and process still give me good memories and a smile, let me share it with you.
I have been looking for a pristine example of the 749R My 2004 for I while, when, by coincidence I found a car and bike collection up for sale. The seller was a Solicitor company, and I had a bit of difficulties with the communication, as I don’t speak Italian. After some mail forth and back via Google translate, I called them a few times not able to find an English-speaking person. I wrote another mail, saying that I the following week will be in Italy, and would like to see the bike/ collection.
Then I got a call back the following day from a young lady from the Solicitors, that have been appointed to translate the dialog to/ from me.
We arranged a meeting on the private venue of the collection, in the center of Bologna, Italy a couple of days later, being a Sunday.
I didn’t meet the owner himself, but a friend of his (the representative), and a lady from the Solicitors, plus a young lady most likely a trainee, that was our translator.
Shortly after our introduction, it was clear to me that there has been some misunderstanding. The Solicitor had the impression that I would like to buy the entire collection, and my main interest was “just” the one item, the 749R.
The representative and the solicitor was quite disappointed. After some dialog in Italian between the solicitor and the representative, they agreed and allowed me to buy the single item, so the travel and time spent for all of us shouldn’t be in vain.
We agreed to meet up the following Tuesday, at some papers and agreement needed to be made, and the bike also need to be de-registered in order for me to take is back to Denmark.
The bike is really in like new condition, those 1037 kms has been very gentle to the bike. Not a fly or debris in the radiator..
Bike has been in my living room and office ever since.
Bike got a service check when I got it home, and has been started up running warm, app 85 deg water temp 2 times a year.
