I have owned this car for a little over 2 years.
During that time it has had quite a bit of work done to it. For example headlining has been replaced, front seats have been restored with the Alcantara being replaced, with thanks to Boyriven. co. uk.
The car has been serviced twice and the belts, water pump, thermostat housing, various pipes, coil packs, inlet manifold, air filter housing, air conditioning regased, new wheels and tyres, discs and pads all round. The Automatic box has also been serviced, which is seldom never done by many owners.
The bodywork has had some attention too. Rear bumper has been repainted, both sills have been repaired and repainted as these are a common area to watch out for.
Fuel economy, I am generally seeing about 27-29mpg on average but you can get mid to high 30's on the motorway at about 65 mph.
It is a dream to drive and I am proud of the condition it is in. I do not know much about the first owner, however the second owner had the car for quite some time. He part exchanged it for another car with a dealer in the South West.
I purchased it from a distance without seeing it and I am so glad that I waited to drive it as not long after arrival, a well known Mobile MG specialist came to service the car and we spotted that the car had previously had signs of overheating. So much so that plastic housing had melted in places. The engine was then dismantled heads skimmed and re-assembled with new head gaskets and new plastic housing parts. Coil packs were changed, spark plugs, a couple of hoses, air filter housing, battery box cover and a few bolts here and there.
All in all, that little exercise was about £2k in parts and labour. It was worth it though. It is a lovely drive and I would be confident to jump in it and drive anywhere. Including buying the car and getting it to standard it owes me about £6k, but when you love cars, it is not about making a profit, it is about knowing that you have saved a car and had some enjoyment out of it. I have lost more than £6k in depreciation over the years. I do have a box file of receipts etc.
In terms of driving, your driving styles can be catered for with a lovely smooth Jatco automatic gearbox. If you want to "give it some beans" it transforms from a calm sedate motorway cruiser into a more sportier and ready for action style. That being said it is not an aggressive delivery of power; some might say more than adequate.
I have only ever ran the car using Shell VPower. I do not do many miles each year, probably about 2, 000 - 3, 000 per car ( and I have 4 at the moment )
