Description
1932 Riley 9 MkIV Plus Ultra tourer. The car was the subject to an extensive older restoration where the chassis, body and mechanics were thoroughly overhauled. In the late 2000s the car was shipped to South Africa where it completed a number of trans South Africa expeditions. It remained abroad for five years before returning to the UK. The bodywork retains an impressive finish and while the blue leather upholstery has aged it lends the car an overall patina which enhances the look of this vintage car. The car retains much paperwork from the log book from the 1950/ 60s through a photographic record of the restoration and documentation from its export and importation back to the UK, as well as bills and receipts from the work undertaken over the last twenty years.
It is powered by the renowned 1100cc double overhead cam engine the car starts easily, maintains good oil pressure and cruises comfortably on modern roads at 50+ mph on tyres with plenty of grip. The crash gearbox and the steering are nice and tight and the car’s nod to modernity is the addition of a rev counter, electric fan (probably to manage the South African heat), electronic ignition (original points/ condenser/ distributor plate retained) and indicators. The weather gear (tonneau, hood and side screens) is complete and in good condition.
