For Sale: Honda Insight ZE1 (1st Gen) – Excellent Mechanical Condition
Selling my first-generation Honda Insight ZE1 – one of Honda’s most over-engineered pet projects. This is an original UK-market car (all UK cars were manual) and is ULEZ compliant.
Despite being a 25-year-old design, this car still averages a lifetime 74+ MPG, a testament to Honda’s obsession with making ultra-lightweight, aerodynamically efficient vehicles.
Mechanical Condition & Upgrades:
Over my 2½ years of ownership, I have invested heavily in preventative maintenance and mechanical improvements to keep this car in great running condition. All receipts and a detailed log are available. Highlights include:
• New lower control arms (fitted last week)
• Second gear synchros fixed – common ZE1 issue, now shifts perfectly
• Roof clip replacements – No more worry of water ingress
• Innner & outer tie rods – Steers very nicely
• Front Drop Links - No clonks
• New Tyres and Refurbished alloys – Quiestest and best RR I could find.
• Hand brake cable - Notorious due aliuminum housing
• Battery refurbished in 2016 – still holding up well
• Integrated grid charger - installed for battery maintenance, if its not going to be used often
• Peter Perkins IMAC&C system for enhanced battery control and monitoring
General Condition
The car has covered 153k miles, which is actually beneficial for the hybrid battery system (they prefer regular use). Mechanically it’s very good condition, but it’s not a garage queen – there are a few cosmetic marks and stone chips, particularly on the bonnet.
To Make It Perfect
• Bonnet respray (stone chips) & small bodywork touch-ups
• Brake fluid change (no recent proof, so worth doing)
• Only one key supplied
Extras
• Plate currently W603 SLE (old plate pictured G24UFO, possible sale considered)
• Based in Croydon, but I regularly travel to Gaydon/ Coventry weekly and occasionally Leeds – viewings can be arranged along my route
