Description
A unique 1962 Land Rover Series 2a.
I am the third owner, having bought it in 2018. Previously it was owned from 1962 - 1984 by an owner in a Welsh village, who sold it to a friend in the same village, who owned it until I bought it.
I have the original registration documents, restoration and servicing paperwork. The body and hood is original. The car was one of the original, early 2 litre diesels (hence the badge on the grill). The engine was replaced during the resoration with a 200 TDI (2. 5 litre).
The chassis is a galvanized Richards chassis, fitted in 2018.
Restoration work was completed professionally by Atwood 4x4 in 2018 and included:
- Fitting of the galvanised chassis
- The fitting of a 200TDI engine and 53 gearbox, replacing the original 2 litre diesel
- Refurbishment of the wheels in bronze green
- Overall of all the brake system, including new calipers and pipes
- A complete, new wiring loom
- 2 new headlamps
- A complete, new exhaust system
- A new set of front seats in Elephant hide
- A new bench seat in Elephant hide in the rear
- A new radiator
- Front seat belts and rear lap belts fitted.
This has resulted in a very useable car, with a very original body work and hood. It is an eye catcher and receives lots of complements.
I have kept the Series 2a maintained at Lagjander, a Land Rover specialist near Exeter.
They have just completed an inspection of the vehicle, which has included a refurbishment of the brake system and 4 new tyres.
MOT & tax exempt; but has a full MOT pass (no advisories) which is valid until June 2027.
I have a new Exmoor hood in sand (with a rear window as per the original) which I have not fitted, as in hindsight the original hood adds to the charm of the vehicle.
Whilst the vehicle was on the ramp, I took the attached photos
Steering is tight and light, the engine produces good power, which results in a fun drive.
