A highly authentic, un-bastardised 1986 Citroën 2CV6 Dolly project featuring a rare hatchback conversion.
Now 40 years old (D-reg), it is eligible to be registered for DVLA Historic Status (Tax and MOT exempt). It has covered a genuine 54, 397 miles from new and has spent the last 12 months in heated, dry storage.
It features a rare hatchback conversion where the entire rear window and boot lid lift up as one piece. This offers incredible practical cargo access over a standard saloon, making it unique and highly usable.
The car has been off the road since October 2010, but has been regularly started up over the years to keep the engine free and healthy. It is rollable and the brakes are not seized solid.
It represents an excellent candidate for a mechanical recommissioning and benefits from a refurbished carburettor and starter motor, an upgraded aftermarket electronic/ points-assisted ignition system, new plugs, and a secondary ignition switch (original column lock remains). A stainless steel rear bumper is also included in the sale. An electronic fuel pump was added to make occasional starting up much easier. (The original factory fuel pump remains in place.)
Purchased privately 29 years ago as a first car, this Dolly has been in our family since 1997. It is an authentic, un-bastardised example that hasn’t been pieced together from various donor cars.
It has had just 4 previous keepers before our long-term ownership, and the V5 logbook is present, alongside a history file.
The car had a replacement second-hand chassis fitted in 1996 (receipt present in the history file). The frame remains in good, solid condition and was regularly oiled over the years.
It is officially updated and registered as White with the DVLA. The car was originally a Red and white Dolly. The white paint over the original red panels was an unfinished job and so the underlying red still show through in places. The inside of the boot lid remains completely untouched in its factory red paint. I've always liked the look, but it provides a straightforward foundation to strip back and restore, or swap for red wings back to its iconic, highly sought-after original Dolly spec.
To get the car back on the road, it will need new tyres, bonnet and roof. Welding is required, notably to the lower windscreen/ body-side bonnet hinge channel, the rear valance, the driver's B-pillar/ seat belt anchor area, and the front lower corners where the floor meets the base of the A-panels (between the front doors and wings). The main bulkhead panel itself and the sills generally appear to be in serviceable condition. The sills for example, require a patch for a hole or two rather than a full replacement.
