The Appeal
The Z3 was a very BMW response to the MX5. The makers of the ‘ultimate driving machine’ borrowed engineering from its saloons and coupes to deliver a retro-styled two seater. With its long bonnet, squat rear and grunty six cylinder motors, it was more of an update of the Austin Healey 3000 than a MX5 rival.
With the 2001 facelift came the 2.2L version of the smooth M52 motor. Lighter than the 2.8L it replaced but similarly powerful, it is a good choice for modern buyers because it delivers decent economy with nimble handling.
Such is the sheer usability of these cars that this one is quite a surprise: it has covered less than 42,000 miles in its 23 years. Its five keepers have clearly used it sparingly and looked after it too - it presents very well in the photos. The smart two-tone black and blue leather interior is particularly well preserved for a Z3.
The car has covered few miles since the last service which included replacing the water pump, rear discs and a front wishbone. More recently, the rocker cover gasket was renewed.
The MOT history supports the sense of a car in great order that is ready to enjoy as the weather brightens.
