The Appeal

The Interceptor is the stuff of boyhood dreams; its innovative fastback style hugely influenced a future generation of grand tourers. So any version is sought-after, but for those who deep dive into these hand-built car, the MkII is the one to have. These cars retain the high-compression 330bhp 6.3L Chrysler V8 from the Mk1 with the classic ‘impact’ dashboard of the later Mk3. They also feature rare sculpted rear seats unique to this model.

Just 633 RHD Mk2s found UK buyers during sits short run of October 1969 to April 1971. This beautifully presented 1970 Mk2 is one of only 162 reported to have been finished in silver. The colour was reinstated during a two-year restoration that cost over £28,000. The work covered paintwork, bodywork, mechanicals and interior retrim. We’ve documented the work more fully below.

The vendor bought the car in 2023 and tells us that it has recently received £5,800 of recommissioning work. In 2025, the car was recommissioned by a specialist, addressing the power steering, ignition, fuelling, and charging systems among other items. Compression and leakdown tests on all cylinders were reported as satisfactory. Further work in early 2026 saw both cooling fan motors replaced

The result is a very reliable and highly presented car. It comes with a truly vast history file that has been augmented by the vendor’s research, including contacting many of the garages that have worked on the car over time. A selection of spares and its original tool kit are included in the sale.

The vendor says:

“Having had this on my dream list from a child, I was very happy to find this car and lucky the owner was reducing his mighty collection, It jumped out at me mainly because of the colour combination looking so contemporary, A liked the stance of the car and looking at the history knew it had been coddled through its life, I also liked the fact that it's been garaged, to date. One funny reassurance was the number of colour changes it had. It got a new coat more than I did, so beneath the paint it had regular check-ups.

“Being a British classic and a collector myself, I am well aware of the demon rust! I bought it at auction and had a lot to do to get it running correctly, but it was a brilliant base car. I actually ran it for a couple of years without having to spend any real money on it, but I wanted it to realise its full potential. I have always kept my cars in good shape for the future, and this is another; sadly, I have to say goodbye because my next project needs the investment from the Jensen. I have enjoyed ownership and am very proud to tick this marque off my list, and I'm happy to give someone else the chance to enjoy it going forward; with the exception of a few minor jobs listed, you can see all the major work has been addressed.

Most parts are readily available from Martin Robey Ltd and a few others. If you've owned a few old cars you'll know how long it takes to feel confident driving it, I have gone through the fear of breakdowns and now I have got the last lot of works finished, I feel at ease now and have complete confidence, I has always started well and the auto choke is brilliant. If you look at all the things that make a car run, you will see it has been fixed or renewed! I would now jump in it and take it to Europe today without any trepidation.”
