The Appeal
Put the name Kevil’s Speed Shop to any custom build you know you’re instantly dealing with the best. Founded by Kevin Hill in 2009, it specialises in what are essentially rolling works of art. But if you’re here and you’re looking at this stunning R80 custom, then you probably already knew all that.
Because this magnificent café racer is a tribute to everything that’s great about that Paignton workshop and the art of customisation. Built 10 years ago and with the current owner ever since, it began life as an R80 “Touring Integrated Cockpit,” but it’s a long way from that now. With bespoke details wrapped around a café racer look, it’s finished in evocative Gulf Oil colours with custom black wheels and trim.
The refresh involved what the seller describes as a “bolt-by-bolt” restoration by Kevil’s, including a full rebuild of the 800cc 4-stroke, air-cooled boxer twin. Since completion we’re told it’s been used sparingly on sunny days. The MOT records indicate that the odometer was zeroed when the bike was completed, since when it’s covered around 6,000 miles. It’s now MOT- and tax-exempt, but its last MOT was in 2023 with no advisories.
The joy of this bike is how tasteful the conversion is. The fact it works just as well as a showpiece as it does a rideable machine only adds to its appeal.

“It runs extremely well and has very low mileage. It’s a Sunday bike for sunny days and it’s always garaged. It’s had a whole new life after restoration—never dropped, always loved, runs well, and starts easily every time. It’s not quite as straight through the pipes, but not offensive. The engine has no sweet spot because it’s 800cc and pulls all the way through its throttle range.
“Loved it, but I’ve got several bikes, and it doesn’t get ridden often or at all, so I need to pass on that joy to someone else.”
