The Appeal
The 300 TDi-powered Defender 90 soft top is one of the most sought-after variants of Land Rover’s iconic workhorse. The analogue simplicity of the 2.5-litre turbodiesel—entirely free from ECU management—combined with the open-air versatility of the soft-top setup, makes it a perennial favorite among enthusiasts. Produced in December 1994, this example is reported to be among the very last 300 TDi models to leave the production line.
Held by its current owner for approximately 15 years, this Defender has been maintained regardless of cost, according to the vendor. It benefited from an extensive repaint in its orange livery in 2022 and rides on Kumho KL71 tyres fitted to Black Rhino alloys, said to have covered just a few hundred miles. Underneath, the chassis, bulkhead and door bottoms have been professionally WaxOyled by “Before n After” specialists. Further modifications include Exmoor trim seats, a quick-release MOMO steering wheel, an upgraded intercooler and a rear roll cage.
The vendor is upfront that this is a working Land Rover with minor oil weeps, some surface rust and as-needed repairs, rather than a concours piece. But with long-term, invested ownership, it’s a very good example of this desirable model.image.png1.23 MB
