The Appeal
Ever seen one of these before? We'll wager even some of the most committed Mitsubishi Evo fans will never have come across this JDM-spec variant of the beloved Evo IX. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX Wagon GT (to give it its full and very long name) is among the rarest performance estates ever produced, pairing the legendary MIVEC 4G63 engine and six-speed manual gearbox with estate practicality.
According to EVO magazine:
"The six-speed manual has deliciously short throws and is ideally matched to the engine's torque curve. So how fast is the Evo Wagon? Around Japan's most popular race track, the 2.1km-long Tsukuba Circuit near Tokyo, it clocked an impressive 1min 7sec, a mere one second off the pace of its booted brother."
This example was imported from Japan in 2020 with under 50,000 miles recorded and has since been dry stored and used exclusively during the summer months, averaging fewer than 1,000 miles per year. Upon arrival in the UK, Evo specialists CPP Motor Developments carried out a thorough inspection and service, including fluids, belts, and other items. Annual servicing has been maintained each year since, with receipts available. A considered selection of modifications from Monster Sport, Tein and others complement the car's performance. It comes with the Mitsubishi manual and service booklet, and the original factory speedometer is included alongside the showroom-fitted Ralliart unit.
The vendor adds:
"The Evo Wagon GT is the closest variant to its Evolution IX sedan sibling due to being fitted with the same engine that debuted in the Evo IX saloon, complete with its sophisticated MIVEC variable valve timing and accompanying TD05-16G-10.5 turbo. It also features an Active Centre Differential (ACD) with three-way Tarmac/Gravel/Snow control. The desirable rear 1.5-way mechanical LSD found on the RS sedans was fitted as standard, and the front 1-way helical LSD found on the JDM GSR sedans was also fitted. Further dealer options could be fitted; in this case, the owner in Japan chose the Ralliart S3 Speedometer, which increases the rev range to 10k and the top speed to 300 km/h."image.png1.15 MB
