The Appeal
This is the kind of L322 you hope to find, namely one that’s been well looked after and someone else has put in all the hard work and investment. Recently repainted in Bentley Verdant Green, which is matched with a bespoke brown quilted leather cabin, it is a very tidy example that is fitted with Jaguar’s torquey 4.4L 300bhp V8.
This example has been the subject of a considered restyling project. Repainted in Bentley Verdant Green metallic in late 2025 — a deep, refined shade borrowed from Bentley's palette — it wears a slatted front grille, matching wing trims, orange indicators and clear glass in place of the original tints, giving it a warmer, more classic appearance. The interior has been recoloured in Porsche Espresso Brown to complement the green exterior, and a retrimmed steering wheel, Apple CarPlay head unit and upgraded speakers have been added.
Mechanically, over £3,500 has been spent since 2025 on belts, tensioners, suspension work, brake pipes, brakes and air-conditioning repairs, carried out largely by Land Rover specialists. The service history includes French records from the car's earlier life and UK specialist entries through to 2025. The current MOT runs to March 2027 with no advisories.
Transparency is important here: the vendor describes the interior as the area most in need of attention. The leather was recoloured rather than replaced, some trim fitment is poor, the heated seats do not work, and there are electrical issues with the driver's door locking and window switches. Full details are set out below. The vendor estimates the project at roughly 80 per cent complete and notes that much of the diagnosis has been done, giving the next owner a clear starting point. For a buyer willing to address the remaining interior and minor mechanical items, this could become a very appealing V8 L322 in a distinctive specification.
Nicely specified and reaching market fresh from a long list of recent work, this looks like a good opportunity for the many fans of these V8 petrol L322s.
The vendor says:
“This particular Range Rover isn’t without faults, and I want to be completely transparent about that. The known issues are set out in the other sections. I don’t see them as an Armageddon situation or an automatic reason to walk away, but together they do make the car a project. Some are the sort of jobs a capable owner could tackle; otherwise, a local garage or interior specialist could work through them. A lot of the diagnosis has already been done, so the next owner has a useful starting point. I’m not aware of a major underlying fault beyond what I’ve described, but I can’t promise an older car will have no surprises. The interior is the biggest area needing attention. That’s a shame, because if it had been fitted properly, the car would be outstanding.
“For me, the L322 with the Jaguar AJ-V8 is the perfect bridge between classic and modern. I’ve driven the BMW-engined version and the TDV6 and TDV8 diesels, and personally I prefer the AJ-V8. We’re called petrolheads for a reason: the sound, smoothness and character of a petrol V8 give the car something the diesels don’t. It has a refined hum when you’re cruising and, with the resonator delete, a lovely burble when you let it rev. It isn’t a loud boy-racer exhaust; it’s just enough to remind you what’s under the bonnet. The L322 still feels warm and full of personality, but it has the comfort and useful features that make it easy to live with. The Apple CarPlay and upgraded sound system improve those everyday comforts, while the car still feels like a product of its time: substantial, tactile and a little bit special. The driving position gives you that commanding view of the road, yet the size makes it surprisingly easy to drive. It has the effortless “royal waft” people associate with these Range Rovers.
“I can see why motoring enthusiasts such as Harry Metcalfe and Jeremy Clarkson have appreciated the shape and the way an L322 travels down the road. I love how well it fits into completely different settings. It can look right at home in the graffiti-lined back streets of Hackney, then feel elegant on a drive through the Cotswolds or on a simple coffee run. The Bentley Verdant Green was a deliberate choice: it has a heritage feel, looks green in different lighting, and is classy without being flashy. I chose the Porsche Espresso Brown interior colour to complement it. It’s a warmer, more aged and understated brown than a bright cinnamon shade, though the interior itself needs the attention described elsewhere. The colour, the shape and the sound all give the car a character that you don’t get from another anonymous modern SUV.
“I have a lot of confidence in the AJ-V8, and I think these cars have lasting appeal. In my view, the L322’s following will remain strong, and the AJ-V8 examples may become increasingly sought after. I’d call this one roughly 80% finished—perhaps 78% if I’m being precise. I’m almost embarrassed that I haven’t been able to complete the project myself, because I can see what it could be. The only reason I’m selling is that my Mazda RX-7, which I’ve owned for nearly ten years and use for hill-climb events, needs repairs. I have several vehicles and projects, and I need to prioritise the RX-7. This is a financial decision, not a loss of interest in the Range Rover. I’ll genuinely regret selling it and would love to reacquire one when circumstances are different. I hope the next owner sees the vision I had for it, enjoys bringing it the rest of the way, and looks after it. Once the remaining jobs are sorted, I think they’ll absolutely love it.”

The vendor says:
"Before my ownership, the Range Rover was reportedly based in France and used as a staff car. It took me around 18 months to find an L322 with the Jaguar AJ-V8 in the right condition and specification for the work I had planned. Some examples were too far gone, while others were exceptionally pristine and priced accordingly. I first enquired about this one in March 2025 and bought it in early summer that year. The car needed a number of jobs, which was reflected in the price I paid. I started work on it soon after buying it, and the work carried out during my ownership has included the wheels, paintwork in Bentley Verdant Green, mechanical work and servicing, upgraded speakers, Apple CarPlay and clear glass."
“The aim was to bring it closer to the specification I wanted to use. I’ve used it occasionally for trips to the office, around town and to Parts and Classics coffee mornings and other car events. It has been kept outside on a driveway, and I’ve never towed with it. It is ULEZ exempt, which has made it handy for trips into London. With the resonator delete, it has a lovely burble; it feels solid to drive and looks at home in settings from London to the Cotswolds. The Range Rover is still not quite where I wanted the project to be, but I’m selling it to help pay for repairs to my Mazda RX-7, which I’ve owned for nearly ten years and use for hill-climb events. I have several vehicles, and I need to prioritise the RX-7. I understand it may seem surprising to sell after investing time and money in the Range Rover, but it’s a financial decision rather than a loss of interest. I’d like to keep it, and I’ll be sorry to see it go.”

Has the gearbox been serviced?
aydanjt
SellerHi Ben, thank you for your interest. I don’t have any paperwork confirming a gearbox service. The previous owner told me he had serviced it himself, prior to 2025 and that the gearbox was flushed shortly before delivery to me as part of my purchase. During my ownership Two JLR independent garages have since carried out general health checks on the car. Neither found any issues with the gearbox, and both said it felt normal on the test drive. In my own experience, it feels smooth and solid in both automatic and manual modes, with no noticeable clunks, slippage or jerkiness .
