The Appeal
Ah, the Ford Mustang - perhaps one of the world’s most iconic vehicles. These hard-lined, hard-nosed, hard-headed motors represent the origins of the Pony Car, and the true glory age of gas-guzzling V8s. They’re still one of the most popular 60s cars on the planet, and perhaps one of the best-loved motors in Ford history.
This example has spent 10 years in dry storage, based in the Sunny climate of Spain. It’s now been serviced and kicked back into life, and is ready and waiting to hit the road with a brand new owner.
The History and Paperwork
- Built at the Metuchen plant in New Jersey
- Based in the USA until its import to France in 2006
- Later moved to Spain, though we aren’t sure of the year
- Has spent ‘around ten years’ in dry storage
- Indicates 98,093 miles on a five-figure odometer
- We can’t authenticate this mileage but it does seem in-line with the car’s condition
- Paperwork file includes the Illinois registration document
- Also includes the 2006 French registration document
The Interior
- Highly impressive red interior
- Excellent ‘timewarp’ cabin with no modifications
- Original Mustang-branded wheel and radio
It’s fair to call this car’s red interior striking. The crimson glow of the leather in the sunlight is an exceptionally evocative one that immediately plunges you into the Mustang’s distinctive, brash personality.
This one is highly original, with all-original period instruments and features, including the radio. The red steering wheel is a particular highlight, as are the nicely-kept dials on the dash. There are a few light signs of wear - the odd mark or spot of fogging - but it’s all remarkably light. We’re not informed of any technical faults across the board.
The driver’s seat features a small tear, and the door has a small hole in the handle where some of the coating has been lost, but they do little to detract from the car’s superb surviving aspects. The chrome is bright and nicely kept, the carpets are clean and the headlining carries only slight signs of wear. The car’s boot is in good order, concealing a spare wheel.
We're ultimately rather impressed by everything we see, which sets an excellent example of an iconic Mustang trim.
The Exterior
- Impressive white paintwork
- Kept in dry storage for over 10 years with little signs of wear
- Original Mustang branded wheels
Upon first sight of this Mustang, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s been held in a climate-controlled bubble. The car presents very well, with no clear dents or dings we can spot in the bodywork, and the usually wear-prone white paintwork looks to be in great order, with only very light marks to be spotted here and there.
The chromework carries very few betrayals of its venerable age, and sets a brilliant reflective contrast against the car. The glasswork and lenses look sound, the Mustang branding is present and correct, and we can’t spot any signs of corrosion across the board.
The car is sitting on its original Ford wheels, which carry the iconic red ‘Pony’ insignia, and is wearing a full set of Maxxis tyres - that still look in good order with plenty of tread.
Underneath, the car shows only light signs of wear, with the odd spot of extremely scant surface corrosion being the only sign of the car’s age. Everything else is in remarkable fettle, with some repairs being visible to the car’s exhaust joints and backbox.
The shocks in particular look to be brand new, but we’ve not been informed if they’re recent additions, or simply installed just before the car was placed in storage.
The Mechanics
- Powered by the C-Code 200bhp 289ci V8 powerplant
- 3-speed automatic transmission
- Car has been treated to:
- New oil
- New filters
- New seals
- New carburettors
Opening up the hood of this Mustang, the V8 engine is a simply superb sight to behold. Storage has seemingly had little effect on the mighty C-code, which is clean, well-presented and lacking any signs of corrosion we can highlight.
Recently fitted with new carbs and filters, the car is ready and waiting to return to the road, with not a single report of any faults post-restoration. There’s no ITV present with the car, but the vendor sees nothing of concern - nor can we.
The car is starting perfectly both when hot or cold, accelerates nicely and shifts perfectly, with no reported faults to the brakes.
Summary
Simply an exceptional survivor, it’s rare we see a Mustang - let alone a white Mustang - come to us in such good condition, with so few signs of modification. With its striking colour combination and legendary aesthetics, this V8 Mustang is sure to become a cherished addition to any garage.
