Description
This was my special order from TimDutton Amphiboious car in 2007
- the hull was built in 2006, LHD 4 wheel drive drive train comes from a period Suzuki Jimny, petrol engine is a 1 300 cc 85 bhp which comes from a Suzuki Jimmy of 1990 to facilitate registration with norms of that time (no ABS required for example, nor catalytic exhaust, both not accurate in water)
- upgraded equipement include twin propellers (this is unique and give more power in dirty waters), self locking rear axle, 100 liters tank for autonomy (actually it needs 8 liters per hour), 5 seats with belts, custom blue vegan leather, air-conditioned (what a surprising idea, actually very convenient when all tops are on.), tow bar with accurate sealed electric connection, over sized wheels, Kmh speedo, depth jauge, compass, luggage space with lid and locker, tonneau black, front soft top black, main soft top black, door side curtains front (with zip), stainless grill on jet propellar intake, master switch to the battery, flag pole, grab handles
- reliability upgrades implemented since the buy include modern cluth, cooling system with hull vents and oversized radiator, manual acceleretor (so confortable on water)
- road speed is around 60 miles per hour, water speed 6 knots
Current conditions
-it has less than 200 hours on the clock, and 6 000 km on earth
- the car has been regularly maintained in France by a local specialist for boats and plastic bodied cars, with new brakes (paddles and drums from a donor Suzuki), cooling system rebuilt with a bigger radiator and hull fan, sealing of transmission newly rehearsed
- the body has some scratches due to hard use in woods or wild rivers.
- new battery, 5 correct tyres
See attached photos of this blue and yellow Commander
- on the first one you may see another amphibious vehicle, an ARGO Crayford made in Canada
- On another you may recognize the Leman lake which I crossed several times
The Dutton is in France in Burgundy from where it often travelled to the swiss Neuchatel and Leman lakes, or went for trip on nearby river Saone for the pleasure of all passengers.
Wherever you go, you will enjoy it as I did.
