For sale is my 1903 Curved Dash Oldmobile Model R. Fully VCC dated, and a successful competitor in numerous Brighton and Creepy Crawly Runs.
History is known back to 1951, it received a full nut and bolt restoration following its sale by auction at Amelia Island in 2009. All work undertaken is documented in two photograph albums, and numerous items of correspondence between the then owner and those carrying out the work.
It was imported to the UK in 2013 and successfully completed the 2014 and 2015 Brighton runs (plates mounted onto the side of the car). Until last summer was garaged with a reputable firm whom undertook care and maintenance of the car, as well as delivering it to shows for the previous owner.
Several folders accompany the car attesting to the above biography and to the many thousands spent on the car over the last 9 years. Through these folders nearly every job undertaken on the car can be traced (there isn’t much that hasn’t been touched!). Included in the documentation is correspondence surrounding its purchase in 1951 and the bills of sale for the transaction. Photographs for the same period appear to show the car around the time.
This is a car in absolutely tip top order mechanically and cosmetically very good.
I purchased the vehicle last summer and have only taken it to three events. A new purchase forces a very reluctant sale.
Included with the car are the following items
- VCC Dating Report & Certificate
- Several folders of paperwork covering recent and past history
- 3 Nickel plated Neverout lamps, 2 front and 1 rear (alternatively I have a brass front pair which can be swapped)
- New unused crankshaft
- The four original wooden wheels, complete with non-skid embossed tyres
- A spare engine compartment hatch (one is flat, the other has a basket)
- A 1902 chassis bracket that I was told may allow the car a 1902 redating (I doubt this and can’t see the point of fitting it).
- Every conceivable manual and book on the car that has been produced in the last 20 years.
- A small lightweight 2 axle trailer, modified to take the Oldsmobile, on two new tyres
- A car cover to protect when parking outside overnight or when garaged
The Curved Dash Oldsmobile is considered one of the best entry level Brighton cars. They are reliable, robust and whilst not uncommon – they are not usually found in such fantastic well documented condition, complete with everything you’ll need to have years of enjoyment.
