The Model L has a

- Special design alloy piston
- 26in. x 2 ¼ in tyres
- Fuel tank- 1 ½ gallon petrol capacity and oil tank- 2 ½ pint capacity
- Amac carburettor
Introduced in 1923, the Model L was the Birmingham Small Arms Company's first production motorcycle to have a side valve. The motorcycle cost a grand sum of £47. 10s. in 1924 which is the equivalent of £2565 in today’s money. Lubrication is effected by gravity feed to mechanical pump, then to sight feed on timing case, feeding to crank case.
The sight feed system is used because many riders like to see for themselves that the lubrication system is doing what it should do.
Many makes used sight feeds and tell-tales till the early thirties, when “ invisible” lubrication finally became generally accepted.
For emergency use a hand pump is also fitted. The tank holds 1 ? gallons of petrol and 2 ½ pints of oil. 'To the sporting solo rider who asks for a "go anywhere" mount, its records in the Scottish Six Days' Trial and the International Trials in Sweden in 1923 stand as recommendation,' as stated Pitman's Book of the BSA, reviewing the side valve version of the Model L.
This Model L has only had 3 previous owners with the second owner having it for nearly 70 years! The owner travelled over to Australia to live and due to loving it so much took it with him, only to return with it again a few years later.
