Description
Willys Jeep – 1942
This is an original Willys Jeep which was supplied direct to the War Department in 1942, It remained in service with the British Army until 1952, it was then sold to a private individual and I then bought it from his estate. I am the second owner on the V5. With the exception of a new rear floor it is very much an original and in remarkable condition.
When stripping the paint off it revealed a sandy colour paint which implies this vehicle may well have served in the Middle East.
This vehicle has been kitted out as a “Desert Raider” as used by the Long Range Desert Group, the original Special Air Force as set up by David Stirling and the PPA – Popski’s Private Army, vehicles like this, were used in the North African Campaign.
Because of this it has been used in the making of a short film called “Under the Jericho Sun”
The vehicle comes complete with:
14 Jerry cans, one of which is German and has the Afrika Korps motif on.
Gun mounts for an Infantry . 50 Machine gun, Central mounts for twin “K” Vickers Machine Gun and a driver side mount for a . 303 Bren gun.
There is also two original WW2 sand plates plus two spare wheels.
Although the windscreen and canvas roof has been removed both these are still come with the vehicle. Also the original seat cushions are here too, for the film new seat cushions were fitted as the film action took place in 1942.
Armaments can also included, subject to a separate negotiation and subject to the purchaser being a member of the Military Vehicle Trust or other recognised legitimate organisation.
They are:
A replica . 50 Browning Machine gun that is gas powered so will produce simulated fire which is very realistic, complete with gas bottles, hoses, gauges, connectors and a power source.
Replica twin K Vickers, this is a show piece and does not have any functionality.
An original WW2 (Canadian) 1942 Bren gun, which has been de-activated.
Also available but subject to a separate negotiation are various small arms appropriate to the desert war of WW2 plus a large selection a military uniforms of the same period including Shemags and a Tropal coat these were highly prized possessions by the LRDG.
