In 1969-70 Metro Cammel produced two prototypes of the Metrocab intending to put the model in production for taxicab service, initially in London. In the event Metrocabs did not appear on London's streets until 1987.
This very rare taxi is Prototype No. 2; the 1976 registration dates from when it left Metro-Cammel. I have owned it since 1995.
Used for a variety of vehicle displays, I have increased the mileage from a warranted 10, 000 miles to just 18, 000 miles.
It has a 1, 760cc 4 cylinder Perkins diesel engine, producing 52bhp, coupled to a four speed all synchro gearbox.
It is in generally good order but with some paintwork imperfections. I am offering it with a quantity of spares.
It has been little used for a couple of years so will need some checking over before use. However a couple of days ago it was 'on the button'.
It is garaged in Loxwood, West Sussex.
