This wonderful and exceptionally original first series Beta Monte-Carlo has covered just 770 miles from new. According to correspondence between previous owners in the history file, this original RHD car was bought new by a farmer in Cambridgeshire for his wife. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly afterwards when the Lancia had covered just 360 miles, and he parked it in one of his barns on axle stands and left it there.
An enthusiast in Leeds placed a wanted advert in Exchange and Mart in 1989 seeking a Monte-Carlo, and was contacted by the farmer in Cambridgeshire who had since re-married and was under pressure from his new wife to sell the car. A deal was agreed and the car was taken to Leeds, after which it was enjoyed sparingly and carefully during the next few years.
In August 2009 the Lancia was sold by the enthusiast in Leeds to the director of a helicopter dealing company in Shoreham-by-Sea, who had owned several Monte-Carlos in his younger days and wanted an excellent example to cherish. He placed the Lancia in the corner of his heated hanger under a cover and drove it just a few times, usually having it trucked to a local garage most years for a service and MOT test.
The car was purchased in June 2017 by someone in Maldon, Essex (who didn’t register it in his name) who sent it to a local garage to be recommissioned, with an invoice in the file detailing the considerable work that was completed in September 2017. He sold it a few months later in December 2017 to the current Maserati enthusiast owner who is sadly only selling the car due to a house move to somewhere with reduced storage.
