For Sale: My 1979 Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe.
Imported from New Hampshire back in 2017, this very rare Italian designed Coupe by Bertone has now been fully UK road-registered with all shipping fees and duties paid. NOVA number present. These legendary rare and expensive cars were built by Volvo as 260 Saloons, then shipped to Italy for Bertone (Ferrari/ Fiat body builders) to convert to a stylish 2-door Coupe. They lowered the roof line, extended the boot, raked the windscreen and redesigned the entire interior. These were changed made to primarily help Volvo compete with the Cadillac Devilles and Lincoln Continentals of the luxury car market in the US. Although not entirely working, these cars did raise the company's luxury credentials!
Following a thorough mechanical and electrical renovation, its now back on the road and driving back to it's best. The list of new fitted parts are as follows:
fuel tank
fuel pump
fuel lines
fuel filter
air filter
spark plugs
water pump
water pump coolant hoses
Temperature radiator switch
front springs
front and rear shock absorbers
Transmission seal and bush
Transmission service
various interior switches and electrical items
all new bulbs all round
brake pads and discs
brake caliper new seals
Car comes with its original US sales folder, owners hand book, copy of the New Hampshire US Title, and business card from THE dealer who sold the car to the first owner brand new.
Interior Black leather is in exceptional condition in keeping with it's original 80, 000 mile mileage. No rips or tears, only very light wear. The black leather has been colonised so is soft and supple. Headliner is one of the best I've seen in one of these.
The iconic black vinyl roof made famous on these Bertone Coupes is in blemish-less excellent condition and is the car's original.
Everything electrical works, including the AM cassette radio & its power antenna on the rear wing and even the clock which keeps good time.
Original Wheels newly refurbished in the states just weeks before import to the UK. Brand new tyres fitted at that stage too, so only a few years old with nearly new tread.
Engine runs very smoothly and starts first time. Holds a great temperature and NEVER over heats with the cooling system fully flushed with new water pump and hoses. This is exactly the same 2. 7L V6 (PRV Engine) from the Delorean and Renault Alpine of the same era. So, not fast, but is smooth and quiet.
Transmission has had a new front seal and a full professional service. So each shift is both immediate and effortless.
The body had a very poor blow-over respray in the late 1990s in the US. The original (seemingly excellent) bright silver paint can been seen underneath the matte grey blow-over where it has flaked off in certain areas. So, IT does require light surface rust repair in a couple of areas when you come to repaint the car. Picture included of the worst areas. Nothing major.
Due to the incredible rarity of these cars, prices are very disparate. £5000 gets you one that's dreadful, off the road, not running and requiring FULL restoration. Whereas £20, 000 gets you a very good condition one. Hence why my asking price is very fair and won't be accepting any low offers.
Price is to sell, not haggle forward as its flaws have already been taken into account.
