Fisher Performance Cars are pleased to offer this stunning British Iconic motor car.
The Alvis Speed 20 is a car that was made between 1931 and 1936. It went through four variants coded SA to SD. This vehicle has SB chassis, engine and running gear.
The engine for the Speed 20 was a heavily modified version of the one used in the preceding Silver Eagle cars, producing 87 bhp (65 kW). Triple HV4 type SU carburettors were fitted.
The chassis was new and lowered by making it a “double drop” type where the side rails go over the front and rear axles. A centralised lubrication system was fitted allowing oil to be provided to moving suspension parts through a maze of pipework. Both front and rear suspension used half-elliptic leaf springs and the self-servo brakes, with 14 in (356 mm) drums, were mechanically operated. Being a SB the four-speed gearbox is fully synchromesh and the car features independent front suspension.
In the late sixties this vehicle was a sister to a Charlesworth saloon. The vehicles were unfortunately vandalised, and the owner decided the repair would follow the route of making one car out of the two he owned. He subsequently put the SA tourer body (HY 6195) onto the chassis, engine and running gear of the SB saloon (AXB 850). This is authenticated by both buff logbooks and DVLA documentation. There are extensive invoices and letters in the history file which support this and subsequent work which went on from the late sixties to the early nineties.
We have had the vehicle independently inspected, report on file, and confirm that the only things found at fault were cosmetic, service related and the following advisories:
1) Noisy front wheel bearing
2) Excessive play o/ s steering pin
3) Number plate light
4) Split pin missing on the drag link
5) Tyres, whilst having good tread are some 2o years old and, in our opinion, should be replaced.
The car has new wet weather gear (hood, tonneau, and hood bag), side screens, good chrome, and paintwork. Leather interior is new.
The car drives very, very well and leaves the new owner with very little to do other than the advisories, service items and cosmetics.
