THIS is my 1970 Triumph Vitesse convertible which was totally rebuilt around five years ago having been found in a really bad state. The vehicle was stripped back to the bare chassis and rebuilt with fresh metal/ panels being used. A glance underneath shows the chassis perfectly clean, tidy and painted black while the underside of the body tub matches the vehicle's exterior. The engine was taken apart and rebuilt and now sounds and performs beautifully as the straight-6 2-litre that it is!
All in all, a super fun four-seater British sports car. So why the bargain price you are maybe asking yourself. If you know your Vitesse convertibles, then you will know their prices. Just take a look at those for sale on this very site!
Well, all I would say is this. The highly skilled elderly gentleman who restored this car with such enthusiasm decided that he would paint it while he was about it. By his own admission, he is no painter. It's all right from a few paces and a lot of it can be made to shine. But there's a high degree of "orange peel" finish as clearly there's an awful lot of paint on there. There are small dents/ dings here and there too which he might have been better advised to have eliminated. However, he had a decent go to be fair to him and perhaps the next owner can improve these cosmetics. The other two choices are simple: Do nothing and just enjoy the car or strip the paint work, give the old girl some love and care and re-paint!
So, all in all, structurally and mechanically sorted. Re-paint if you choose. So now you know. Hence the price. If you want an example of this iconic British drop head that needs absolutely nothing, then feel free to go and spend more than double elsewhere. So please don't tell me about the paint finish, the ripples and the dents. I am telling you first. She comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
Great car waiting to be enjoyed. After all, not everyone wants a trailer queen!
