This 1964 Triumph 2000 Mark I Automatic is now a very rare car, as very few featured automatic gearboxes. Paired with Triumph's 2000cc straight 6-cylinder engine, it gives a very smooth and capable ride, effortless to drive thanks to the butter-smooth gearchanges and light steering at all speeds, as well as fantastic balance in the way the car sits and holds the road. The dashboard and instrument panel have an easily readable and characteristic black-on-white styling.
The engine bay, as the photos show, in quite spectacularly clean. As to be expected from a car this well kept, the cars mechanicals perform excellently.
The exterior is outstanding, with lovely paintwork and sharp edges to all wheel arches and sills. It boasts new window rubbers all round, including even the quarter-light windows, adding to the car's appeal. We lifted the carpet for the photos to show just how rock solid this car is.
Triumph's cars in general in this era were famously good-looking cars, and this Triumph 2000 has a very refined look and feel to it, helped by the fabulous interior.
When it first launched, these were generally accepted by the motoring press as semi-luxurious. However, in this age of tacky black plastic interiors, and with this particular car having been so lovingly maintained, such touches as the real wood trim on the dash panel and around the windows, the colour-coordinated soft carpeting throughout, the fully reclining front seats and the traditional pull-down arm-rest all help give the car a premium feel.
A very popular and much-loved car throughout the sixties and beyond, this particular example, in such condition, and with its rare automatic gearbox, is surely one of the best ones left today.
