This superbly rebuilt, original RHD, UK Home Market matching numbers Austin Healey 100/ 4 BN1 has come to us for the second time, previously supplied by us to its most recent owner, the proud custodian of a Historic Aircraft collection and the former stuntman pilot for the James Bond film ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’. With many aircrafts, motorbikes and cars around him, there has been little time to enjoy the Healey so we are delighted to welcome it back and find a new home for this exceptionally well presented example.
The Austin Healey was found in need of total restoration during the late 1980's when it was purchased by a professional body restorer. The Healey had been with one lady owner in South Yorkshire for many years and on initial purchase by its restorer, it was placed in storage prior to a full nut and bolt rebuild commencing in 1992. The body was completely rebuilt, prepared and then fully re-painted, the upholstery re-trimmed, new weather equipment fitted, re-chromed, re-wired, new wheels and tyres fitted and mechanically completely overhauled. The original engine was stripped and totally rebuilt with new main and big end bearings, pistons, rebuilt cylinder head, re-ground crankshaft etc. From 1992 to 2009 the Healey covered over 15, 000 miles touring all over Europe. In 17 years of use, thousands of miles covered touring in France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany, the Healey never once let the owner down proving completely reliable throughout ownership.
In 2009 URL 931 sold to a retired classic car enthusiast in Harrogate who covered just a few hundred miles throughout ownership. The car had been kept in a central heated garage, regularly taken out for short, local trips and events such as Newby Hall and was been kept in outstanding condition. The Healey then came to us for the first time and we supplied the car to the most recent owner. The car comes back to us in beautiful condition, the bodywork is absolutely top class with no corrosion issues, the body panels are perfectly straight and sharp, the underside body colour and outstanding. The engine bay is beautifully presented with detailed ancillaries so you would not believe the car was restored almost 30 years ago. The chrome work is excellent throughout, so is the weather equipment and boot compartment. Lifting the carpets reveals beautiful clean Red floor pans, the detail in every respect is fabulous, the upholstery delightfully aged with an authentic look and feel. The car presents very fresh, a car that was perhaps restored five years ago.
On the road URL 931 is excellent, the engine pulls superbly holding excellent oil pressure. The rebuilt engine sounds and runs perfectly, the three speed overdrive gearbox is a delight to use, the steering, brakes and suspension all feel tight and responsive. This BN1 100/ 4 is a real gem, it's a genuine matching numbers UK car in top quality condition, has long term proven overseas touring reliability and will not disappoint in any area. The condition is remarkable considering the age of restoration and without doubt offers excellent value for such a well sorted, genuine car that has all the investment qualities looked for in such a car. Further to that, it is ready to drive, enjoy and take on the Continent, something it has been very used to doing with its long term owner and restorer.
