THIS is my 1951 Rover 75 Mark 1. The 2103cc straight-six first ever P4 (launched in 1949) which became known later as the Cyclops for the obvious reason that it had that extra "one-eyed light" in the centre of the front grille. Note the flat front wings and the totally different rear end to every P4 ever produced between the birth of Cyclops and the final Rover 110 which ran until 1964. When it comes to values regarding P4 Rovers, there is no contest. This early model wins by miles. The Rover Motor Company was allegedly sued - or attempted at it - by the American motor company Studebaker. To such an extent, that in the UK, the car was known as the Roverbaker!
Anyway, yes, they are mega rare and highly sought after.
This solid old girl has covered just 49, 000 miles which is believed to be correct. I note from the car's history that when she was 52-years-old, she had just two former keepers!
Her last MoT expired just ten years ago and she drives, goes through the gears and stops. There is a whiff of stale petrol, but so good is this engine that she simply purrs with that staright-six unit.
She has covered just 1500 miles in the past 12 years or so.
Great period colour with red leather interior. Note the different pattern of the seats here compared to later P4s. A rare opportunity and not to be missed. I am the finder; you are the next owner. An honest genuine car which would benefit from a bit of fettling, brightening up but a usable classic all the same. A bargain. Be quick!
The classic cars I sell are motoring antiques. There may be a few dozen left of any one model, maybe more and maybe less. Most of them had lives that lasted anywhere between three and seven years (on average). Today's classics are all rare. They have survived. Please do not come and look at one of my cars from the 30s, 40s or 50s and point out some blemishes. Do the maths and work out their ages. If these ancient motor cars are not your cup of tea then please don't make an appointment and come and insult them. Buy a three-year-old BMW if that is your thing. Some are restored to a huge degree; some have never been touched and remain original with warts and all. This Cyclops falls into the latter category. No two will ever be the same. They are not in a showroom "bulled up" for your perusal. I pride myself on being able to find different and interesting - to me at any rate - classic cars and then finding new homes for them. Understand that and we shall all get on very well indeed. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Many thanks. Martin. the details below).
