The Jaguar XK
The Jaguar XK120 made its historical debut at the 1948 British International Motor Show, where the XK120 together with the two-seater convertible version, better known as Drop Head Coupé (DHC), immediately made a strong impression because of its progressive exceptionally elegant design and its superior performance.
Although the world was still reeling from World War II and the car was intended as a small-scale, exotic showcase for the revolutionary XK engine, demand was so overwhelming that Jaguar decided to put the car into serial production. Therewith, in one fell swoop, the XK120 became the world’s fastest production car with an at that time unrivalled top speed of 120 mph (193 km/ h). That was so impressive that it was even referred to in the car’s type designation.
The engineers showed that the car could actually be faster by taking away the windscreen, this way even a top speed of 203 km/ h was achieved. The XK120 broke all records. A legend was born. It could be argued that this model was the beginning of Jaguar’s success story in the 1950s, the brands heyday in racing when it won the Le Mans 24 Hours - the most famous race of all – five times in a row. There is no way to get any closer to the genuine classic racing feeling than with this fully restored Open Two Seater.
