1984 Toyota Hiace Devon camper
Factory Devon converted van with original interior. This van has always been loved and only had 4 previous owners from new and comes with a huge file of all the old MOT’s and service history including the original owners manual and owners information pack. It was also featured in Classic van magazine and features in the ‘My cool camper van’ book. It also won an award in 2010 for best original interior at Classic camper club nationals.
If you know about old Toyota’s you will know they are mechanically fantastic but known for being really bad for rust. This was the case when I bought this van, since then I sourced all new panels from Europe including rear lower quarters inner and outers, rear wheel arches, front arches, basically the entire lower quarter of the van has been replaced. This work was done by a local welder/ fabricator and cost £3500. Once that was completed the whole van was repainted with the 2 tone paint job. Other work I have done includes new leisure battery and split charge system, new clutch, 80w Solar panel, new roof vent, oil and filter change, flushed the radiator etc. I also custom made the roof rack and replaced the bed mattress in the roof.
Mechanically it is amazing and is a lot of fun to drive with its Manual column shift gearbox. This is also great as you can properly fit 3 people in the front without any legroom compromises due to the gear lever or handbrake. Its quiet, comfortable and easy to drive and will easily return 30MPG. The engine is a 1. 8L 2Y engine the same as what was used in the early Hilux’s so parts are easy to source. It has just had 4 brand new new tyres and comes with 12months MOT.
The interior is in great condition and is totally original but it is starting to show its age with some of the edging coming away from the veneer. The front seats are in perfect condition and it has the original 8 track player but also has a modern head unit in the glove box. Other items included are a rear bike rack and full drive away awning.
