- details above
In Blue Sera (nice dark metallic blue) with rare full cream leather interior. Manual sliding seats with electric backrests.
I'll list plenty of info here so if you're interested, please ensure you've read the full advert before you make contact.
2. 8 24v V6 engine with two turbochargers. Koni electronic suspension with switchable modes. 5 speed Getrag manual gearbox, 16" OZ alloy wheels. Maserati produced 130 222 4vs between 1990 and 1993 ish, with only 11 of those being RHD; this is one of the ten (or less) that remain. Make no mistake - this is an exceptionally rare car.
The car isn't totally standard - it has a lightly ported intake manifold, 3200 GT turbochargers, an aftermarket air filter element, the catalytic converter has been removed, and the bootlid features standard 222 badging and a 222 E spoiler rather than the 'correct' 4v 3-piece rear spoiler.
It has been an on/ off project of mine for the last 6 years but I've finally accepted that I don't have the time for it any more, or for any of my other projects for that matter, so the car is regrettably for sale. It doesn't feel good to sell it, but needs must, and I don't want to become one of those "I'll fix it up one day" people while the car deteriorates. It needs a new caring home.
The car runs and drives but has no MOT. It was briefly on the road in 2018 but I hardly used it as there was a steering issue which I traced to a seized joint in the NSF suspension, though I haven't had the time to fix it. The car will be sold with various spare parts, including some new front suspension bushings and other components which should fix the problem. Please be aware that this car will be a recommissioning project, though it shouldn't need too much to get it back on the road. All electrics seen to be working aside from the mirror adjustment. Being a Biturbo, the bodywork has suffered from corrosion here and there, the worst of which is definitely the bootlid which needs attention. Other than that it's not terrible but there are a few blisters here and there. I also accidentally caught the driver's door with an engine on a dolly when I had to shimmy the dolly past the car, so the door has a few slight dents to it. D'oh.
A friend and I had to cut out some rust in both front floors and we welded in new metal to get the car through an MOT, but the welding was fairly basic (strength rather than pretty welds) and realistically it's not neat and would probably need re-doing. Though it's perfectly strong and the car can be jacked on the jacking points without a problem. The rest of the underside seems to be in good condition, I cannot see any other worries in the rest of the floor pan.
I made a start cutting some rust out of the NSF arch a month ago but this work stalled. You can see a picture of this in the album I've attached a link to. The OSF arch has had a strip of metal welded in and sealed over previously.
The interior is a nice place to be but will require some attention. A previous owner had tried to re-dye the seats but the finish/ colours were uneven and it didn't look great. I tried to clean it up, remove the new dye and improve things but it will need further attention. There are signs of wear and tear here and there, and some damage to the driver's door card. I can supply further pics of the interior if required.
Unfortunately I don't own the history for the car prior to my ownership. The previous owner claimed to have misplaced it at the time of sale and promised to forward it, but despite my attempts to retrieve it, I never succeeded.
The car was also recorded as a Cat C (I believe) in 2007 or thereabouts for a bump at the back end, but the car was repaired and given a full respray.
Here is a basic overview of the maintenance the car has had during my ownership:
2016: Timing belt, tensioner bearing, starter motor, auxiliary belts, spark plugs, cam cover gaskets, cam covers and intake plenum repainted.
2017: water pump, steering track rods, dashboard light bulbs, various engine gaskets, new valve shims and clearances adjusted, rear crank seal, wheels refurbished, 4x new tyres.
2018: front brake pads, reverse light switch, stainless clutch slave hose, fan switch, fresh fluids (using 10w60 Fuchs Titan fully synthetic engine oil) oil filter, K+N air filter element, brake fluid, PAS fluid, wiper blades, indicator repeater bulbs, steering rack boots (aftermarket cheap ones) coolant expansion bottle + cap, air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, brake bleed screws, replacement used steering rack, fuel pressure regulator.
I barely touched the car in 2019 and 2020 but have worked on it here and there since;
2021: rear exhaust left and right side silencers
2022: Distributor cap, rotor arm, HT leads.
Please feel free to get in touch if you're interested and I'll do my best to answer your questions adequately. Emails or texts may be better, at least as initial contact, as I don't tend to be able to speak on the phone much during the day and I'm likely to miss phone calls.
I have over 100 pictures of the car so if you want to see pictures of specific things then please just let me know. Thanks for looking.
