I acquired this bike as a rolling chassis and crates of bits . The guy knew the first owner and had been after it for years apparently, unfortunately when he got it he couldn't get it to run properly and his enthusiasm waned. The carbs just needed a serious clean ! As with all projects some carefully bagged bits were rubbish, some had got lost and things needed re-doing. Fortunately a lot of parts were still available from kawasaki and the rest required imaginative sourcing. The majority of fasteners have been replaced with stainless, I have kept the old ones if originality is key. The engine was sound, I checked the valve clearances and refitted the cam cover with a new gasket. The brakes needed completely rebuilding with pistons, seals and stainless hoses, both master cylinders were replaced, the original sprockets were fine but I fitted a chain and sprocket kit. One fork stanchion had rust damage (leaky roof?) replaced with nos kawasaki item, front wheel bearings too. It was shod with the original Japanese Dunlop on the front and an as new Pirelli Phantom rear, these were replaced with a pair of Metzelers and balanced. The original 4:2 system was toast so a stainless Delkevic 4:1 was sourced and a different baffle to prevent hearing loss! The paint was good enough for me but a professional respray would elevate it to show quality. The fuel tank has been treated internally with rust proofing and sealer and the clutch plates and springs renewed. The bike has had an mot and tax since I've owned it and will come with a fresh mot , it will be eligible for historic vehicle status in April 23. Reg no. MRG432X
