Description
FOR SALE; ALFA ROMEO GTV // ORIGINAL UK PRESS CAR // IMPECCABLY RESTORED
EQUIPMENT;
Pioneer Radio / CD, Manual sunroof, Oil pressure gauge, Dash clock, Heated rear screen, Front fog lights, 'Gessato' trim, 12v Power socket
EXTERIOR;
Based on the Type 116 Alfetta, the Giugiaro-penned Alfetta GT – later named GT Veloce and abbreviated to GTV turned an unremarkable saloon into a pretty, rakish coupe. This particular example started life in the UK as the manufacturer demonstrator before finding a home in Cyprus; a perfect climate for chassis preservation. As such the car made a fantastic template for a full overhaul by owner and marque specialist - Solo Georgiou.
The Alfa red paintwork is first class all around the car, showing a deep, consistent shine throughout that contrasts against the dark grey metallic trim, sills and bumpers. Plastics and rubbers have been replaced or renewed where necessary although the car retains all of it's original glass from new - proudly displaying the original registration plate stamps in each corner.
INTERIOR;
Bursting with flair, the combination of pinstripe Gessato seats, wooden wheel and gear knob are pure 80's Italian fusion. Seats have survived remarkably well with excellent shape and contour, free of marks or wear whilst carpets throughout tell a similar story. The rear bench appears unused. Door cards and trim can be notoriously delicate although pleasingly everything appears tight and as it should be.
Cabin charm culminates in the 4 octagonal dials featuring vital signs for fuel, oil and water temp.
ENGINE;
The 2. 0 litre twin cam engine has been completely overhauled and whilst lacking the aural drama of it's bigger brother it does have character all of it's own - keen to rev with a smooth delivery and a hard edge howl. Steering feel is fluid and feelsome - all the better for being unassisted - while the recently installed quick shift allows you to exercise the power band with ease. With so few miles since a carb strip, rebuild and full service the car is mechanically in great form.
Presentation is of the highest order with the scuttle and inner wings showing no signs of corrosion whatsoever.
WHEELS;
The 15 inch turbine wheels appear unrestored and although they do show some wear commensurate with age they are only original once so that is how we left them! Pirelli Cinturatos sit on each corner, as fitted to the car when new.
Braking power is more than a match for the performance on offer, discs and pads are in excellent health.
HISTORY FILE;
DLN 2Y was completed on the 28th February 1983 and sold in the UK on the 12th April of that year, as confirmed by Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo.
'Motor Magazine' featured in July of 1984 the car would be sold to a Greek gentleman who would go on to look after the car for most of its life. The car would only be used only on selected weekends before the car was dry stored for ten years between 2000 and 2010. The car was located in storage and sold to an Italian marque specialist who decided, upon assessment of the superbly preserved chassis, to carry out an overhaul.
The previous owner spotted the car whilst searching for an Inspector to assess a GT 1300 Junior in Cyprus. This 2. 0 belonged to the Inspector - a family project that was set to stay with the family for life. However, the situation changed and 2 years after restoration the car arrived in the UK in 2015.
Reaching us in 2017 the car has just returned from marque specialist Alex Jupe having had an inspection and subsequent service with an open cheque book remit. A glowing report on the condition of the car sat alongside an invoice with selected works performed chasing GTV perfection. We were tasked with selling the car and found it an excellent home in a collection with the current owner where it has been stored and admired ever since. Sadly the history file that was supplied on sale has been misplaced and is no longer with the car at this time.
It is now being offered out to the market again and requires a new custodian.
