After the war in 1946, the Corgi Motorcycle company was set up by John Dolphin to develop and civilianise the war time Wellbike design. The new Corgi had a stronger frame and a larger fuel tank in the conventional place as weight was no longer a problem. This new bike was manufactured under licence by the Brockhouse Engineering firm in Southport and over 25, 000 Excelsior Spryt-engined bikes were sold before production ceased in 1954.
The Watsonian child’s sidecar could be purchased to carry either one child or two and became very popular for fitting to either a bicycle or autocycle.
This Brockhouse Corgi combination was first registered on the 12th October 1949 and has been in its present ownership since 2013. The bike appears to be very original, and unrestored; the Corgi size combination chassis has been fitted with a Watsonian child’s sidecar body instead of what would have been the Corgi tradesman box. The bike is said to start and run well.
Comes with – a current V5C and the previous V5C.
This and approximately 100 other motorcycles will be sold by auction on the weekend of July 30th and 31st at Showell Farm, SN15 2NU. Please note that this bike cannot be purchased prior to auction.
