THE Riley 1. 5 has always been a popular sports saloon, ever since its inception in the late 1950s. Very much for the sporty driver with flat cap and stringback driving gloves. And pipe of course. These nippy little twin-carb 1500s are rarely offered these days, my theory being that those who are fortunate to enough own one have no intentions of selling.
And just look at the registration on this little beauty. RIL 1500. Yes Riley 1500. Very nice touch!
In arguably the best colour combo of Arianca and Sandy Beige, she is a really bonny little thing. Converted to run on unleaded and with a hefty history file, she performs well. Having been stored for a few years, I found the brakes a little soft although functional. Other than that, a little re-wiring has gone on to the dashboard area and although lights and windscreen washer both work, the switches need to be fitted to the wooden dash. She has an attractive enough interior, floor pans look good and strong and paintwork is generally fine. The photos show her just as she is.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 59-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace.
